Cooking with a Dirty Stovetop or Oven is No Fun
Cleaning your stove top and oven can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. With the right supplies and a bit of elbow grease, you can have your stove top and oven looking like new in no time.
Before you begin, make sure to gather the supplies you’ll need for the job. Here are some of the basics: rubber gloves, a sponge, an all-purpose cleaner, an oven cleaner, a scrub brush, baking soda for tough stains and a towel.
Now that you have everything you need, you’re ready to start cleaning. The first step is to turn off the stovetop and preheat the oven to about 200 degrees Fahrenheit. This will help loosen up any baked-on grease and grime.
First, let’s tackle the stovetop:
- Begin by spraying the stovetop with an all-purpose cleaner and let it sit for a few minutes.
- Remove the knobs.
- Then, use a sponge to scrub away any stuck-on food particles or grease. If needed, you can use a scrub brush to help loosen up really stuck on food or tough stains.
- For tougher stains, mix equal parts of baking soda and water in a bowl and spread the paste over the stained area. Let it sit for 10 minutes and then scrub with a sponge or scrub brush.
- Take a sponge and some warm, soapy water and gently clean the surface of your stove. Make sure to rinse off any soap residue.
- Wipe down the entire surface with a damp cloth.
- To clean the knobs, take a scrub brush and dip it in a bowl of warm, soapy water. Scrub the knobs and rinse them off with a damp cloth.
- To clean the burner grates, place them in the sink and fill it with warm, soapy water. Let them soak for a few minutes then scrub them with a sponge. Rinse off the soap and dry them with a cloth.
- Reattach the knobs
Now it’s time to move onto the oven:
- Before you begin, make sure the oven is off and cool.
- Remove any racks or trays from the oven.
- Start by spraying an oven cleaner onto the inside of the oven and let it sit for a few minutes.
- Wipe down the oven’s interior with a damp cloth and mild detergent to remove any surface dirt and grime.
- If you have stubborn, baked-on stains or food particles, mix equal parts baking soda and water in a bowl and apply the paste to the stains.
- Allow the paste to sit for at least an hour before wiping it away with a damp cloth.
- To really get into the nooks and crannies, use a dampened toothbrush or small scrub brush to reach any areas that a cloth cannot.
- After you’re finished, dry the oven’s interior with a clean, dry towel.
- Finally, you’ll want to clean the oven racks.
- Spray the oven racks with an all-purpose cleaner and let them sit for a few minutes.
- Then, use a scrub brush to scrub away any stuck-on food particles or grease. Once you have finished scrubbing, rinse the racks off with warm water and dry them off with a towel.
- Place the racks or trays back in the oven and you’re done!
And that’s it! With just a few basic supplies and a bit of elbow grease, your stove top and oven will be looking like new in no time. Good luck!
